Wright County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Captain, Sean Deringer, announces his candidacy for Sheriff

On Thursday night, February 22nd , Captain Sean Deringer of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office held a public event with over 200 people in attendance where he announced his candidacy to be the next Wright County Sheriff. Wright County Attorney, Tom Kelly, introduced Sean and offered his endorsement of Sean Deringer for our next Wright County Sheriff.

Deringer has been in Law Enforcement for 22 years, all in Wright County. Deringer started his career with the Buffalo Police Department in 1996 as a patrol officer. In 1997, Deringer was hired by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office where he has held the positions of Patrol Deputy, Narcotics Investigator, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigations Lieutenant, Administrative Lieutenant and currently the Patrol Captain.

Deringer has also held several other secondary positions throughout his career with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office. He has been a member of the Wright County Sheriff’s ERT (emergency response team) as a member and team leader, a certified clandestine methamphetamine lab investigator, firearms instructor, less lethal instructor and taser instructor.

In 2014, Deringer attended the 71st session of the Supervisor Leadership Institute through the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

In 2015, Deringer graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. This ten-week course offered through the FBI was established to secure a strong bond between the FBI and local law enforcement and to develop the next generation of law enforcement leaders and executives.

Deringer believes that through these experiences, he has the knowledge, skills and insight to lead the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and its great employees.

With the cultural shift in recent years, it has never been more important to engage and partner with county leadership, city leadership, the business community and the citizens we serve to collectively stand together and face the challenges in our community. Deringer will ensure that the employees of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office have the necessary equipment, tools, technology and training to do their job efficiently, effectively and safely while being a good steward of the taxpayer’s dollar.

Deringer will be working hard during this campaign to earn your vote, and even harder, to serve you as your next Sheriff.
